It may sound unusual, but you don't have to be driving to be arrested for DWI in New Mexico. For example, one man was charged after he decided to sleep in his car after drinking. Fidencio Francia knew better than to drink and drive last August. when he walked out of the American Legion Post 99 on Louisiana, he decided to sleep it off in his pick up truck.

If they're in a driving position, in the driver's seat, they're intoxicated, they have the ability to start that vehicle, (then) they can be found guilty of drunk driving   -Kari Brandenburg

Reserve offensive lineman Jonathan Owens became the third player arrested since Oct. 13 on a traffic-related charge Thursday. The redshirt freshman from Blountsville, Ala., was arrested by university police at East Carlton Street and River Road for driving a motorcycle without a license. He was booked into the Clarke County Jail at 3:39 p.m.

Susanne Swanson had what can only be called a bad day Wednesday. Swanson, 35, of Portsmouth was involved two car accidents, arrested for driving under the influence and is probably facing more charges, including theft from a Rye home where she allegedly walked out on the two children she was supposed to be caring for. Swanson was starting her first day working as a nanny for a Rye family Wednesday when the mother left the house, leaving her children's care to Swanson.

People driving in Harrisburg might want to get ready to put their handheld cell phones away. The Harrisburg City Council is moving forward with a measure that would ban people from using handheld cell phones while driving in the city. This week, council members discussed possible penalties.

Grants Pass Public Safety is testing out a license plate recognition system that can automatically scan license plates. It's the only agency in Oregon currently testing the system. The system uses a camera placed on the trunk of a patrol car and a processing unit in the trunk.
